We have a large open play area that is well resourced to promote healthy active fun and play.

EDUCATORS AND STAFF

Our dedicated educators at King Street Community Pre-School are all highly trained and qualified, with two University trained Early Childhood Teachers, Diploma trained and Certificate III Educators in Early Childhood Education and Care.

COMMITTEE

The management committee is elected at the A.G.M. each year. This committee is responsible for among other things appointment of staff, financial management, and maintenance of the building. Meetings are held once a month, here at the pre-school, and all parents are welcome. This is where we can talk to you about plans for excursions and other special events, and let you know what is happening at your Pre-School. It is a place where you can voice your opinions too. The meetings are brief and interesting, and we hope you will become involved at some level throughout the year.

Management Committee Meetings are held monthly at a time suiting members of the Committee.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

King Street Community Preschool provides a quality environment to fully prepare our children for life in the wider community. We strive to be a centre of excellence for early childhood education within our community by ensuring that we operate within the guidelines set down by governing and professional bodies.

Our programme is governed by the Early Years Framework and the National Quality Framework (EYLF).

We encourage each child to work towards meeting all of the 5 learning outcomes of the EYLF,

  1. Children have a strong sense of identity
  2. Children are connected with and contribute to their world
  3. Children have a strong sense of wellbeing
  4. Children are confident and involved learners
  5. Children are effective communicators by promoting meaningful, ongoing learning.

We aim to meet the needs and interests of a diverse group of children and facilitate the inclusion of children with additional needs.

Children, families and staff form a caring community. We value strong partnerships between families and staff and encourage family involvement such as working bees and committee involvement. We encourage families to engage in meaningful participation within our program. Diversity within our preschool, families, staff and community is respected and celebrated, fostering and developing a social conscience among our children. We are committed to open and constructive communication including discussion, child portfolios and regular newsletters.

We believe children are capable and resourceful learners who actively contribute to their learning through collaboration with other children and adults and through interacting with their environment. We foster children’s natural curiosity in order to encourage them to engage with learning and develop a quest for knowledge. We do this by encouraging children to nurture their environment, seek knowledge of nature and learn to respect and care for living things.

Our children are valued as individuals. We show children the importance of belonging within their family, the preschool and their community, developing a sense of independence, initiative and responsibility. We aim to equip the children with the resilience to confidently face the challenges of a changing world.

We are committed to full participation of children with additional needs and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

We provide a challenging, yet safe, environment in which children may develop physical skills through free play and gross motor programmes. We do this by providing attractive, well maintained play areas and an environment which encourages children’s ability to observe, perceive, explore, investigate, stimulate their imagination, promote creativity, make choices and problem solve.

We believe in supporting our highly experienced staff that is committed to the best interests of children and families. We value that staff bring individual qualities to our preschool such as empathy, respect, warmth and a passion for learning. Our staff are advocates for their profession and understand the importance of sharing their knowledge and experience utilising best practice. We ensure staff share in decision making and have regular opportunities for professional development.
